As moms, we have this instinct to ask our kids to look and smile at the camera. I catch myself doing it too. But then I remind myself that one day, when they’re older and I am looking back, those aren’t the photos that I will ache for. I’ll want to see who they really were; the silly faces, the way they looked at me, and I at them…the way their hands fit perfectly in mine. The afternoons spent picking flowers, dancing in the kitchen, or lying in the grass watching the clouds. And I want them to have those memories of me too.
